Which Commandments?
Conservative Christian types frequently complain about not being allowed to post the Ten Commandments on a courthouse wall or in a school. Yet is that really the sort of thing a Christian should be doing? Would it not make more sense for a Christian to demand a posting of the beatitudes? The words of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, True God from True God, these are the words that a person who claims to be his follower ought to be pushing, don't you think?
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are the meek,
for they shall possess the earth.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for justice,
for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart,
for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.
Blessed are they who suffer persecution for justice' sake,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
But those things don't fit into the conservatives plans for world conquest in the name of God I suppose, especially not the mercy and peacemaking. :-(
Peace be with you.
