In Spirit and Truth
John 4:21 Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth." Since
Jesus is the Truth, when Jesus says "
the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth" I think he is saying that true worshipers will worship the Father in Jesus Christ. As Christians we are members of Christ's body, we are "in Christ" and we can only approach the Father if we are in Christ.
I know that seems pretty obvious but I never really looked at this passage in that way before. It seems to me we have a reference to the Trinity here as well, we have the Father, the Spirit and Jesus (Truth).
So, am I going too far or not far enough in looking at this passage? These are just the things that jumped out at me as I read it is all. I'm not a trained theologian so I don't know if I'm stretching it too far or not. These are things that I didn't find mentioned anywhere else so I am probably all wet anyway. Actually, as a Christian being all wet might be considered a good thing, I'm all wet in my baptism into Christ ;-)
