Wednesday in Holy Trinity
“I believe that God has made me and all creatures; that He has given me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members, my reason and all my senses, and still takes care of them.” (Explanation to the First Article of the Apostle’s Creed)
In the Name of Christ. Amen. Creation, Evolution, or Intelligent Design? A combination of two or all three? The debate continues to rage, with even some prominent “Christians” asserting ideas other than creatio ex nihilo, the creation of the universe out of nothing that Scripture proclaims.
If we can believe that Jesus, the Christ, was put to death for our sins only to come to life again three days later, why is it so hard to believe that God the Father is the Maker of the universe?
If all the reports are to be believed, the Big Bang and evolution are far from conclusive arguments, but we are still stuck with them as the main competing ideas to creation.
Rather than dwell on those ideas, though, focus on what Scripture says. God created the universe, and through that same universe He takes care of us daily.
How can we go through life without believing that God has created us and still be Christian? If we believe what Jesus says about Himself, and we trust that Word, how can we doubt what He says about God the Father and His creative work?
If we don’t trust that God is at work behind creation and its sustenance, life becomes hollow very soon. Where is the meaning? What is the ultimate goal of life if there is no Creator behind it all?
But we know that there is a Creator behind it. We know that there is Someone who is watching over us in love. We know that we can trust that One who watches over us, because He keeps His promises.
He promised to send One to die in our place, and He did. He promises to care for us and keep us, and He does. His promise extends to eternity, where we will join with our Creating Father, His Redeeming Son, and His Holy Spirit, all of whom work together to keep us in the one true faith until the Last Day. Amen.
“God the Almighty, the great Creator, Ruler of sky and land and sea, All things ordained, and sooner or later They come to pass unfailingly. His rule is over rich and poor, His promise ever standeth sure. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!” (TLH #26, v.4)
