The other day I tried to pray for Mr. Bush. Today I have read a number of stories about the creeping fascism that has overtaken the United States of America that make it even more important to pray for him.
I began to get worked up and upset when I was reading about the illegal and totalitarian telephone call logging program the NSA has been running. But I came to the conclusion that speaking out about and getting worried about the country turning into an evil totalitarian empire were misplaced. God is most certainly in charge of the cosmos, there is nothing that can happen outside of his will, right? Hmm, a recipe for doing nothing that attitude is, no? So what does one do when one finds himself witnessing the death of a republic and its replacement by an evil empire? I am doing the only thing I can do that might possibly make any difference. I'm praying for the nation, for our leaders and for Christ's Body, the Church. I have no influence in the world, but I can still pray.
On a brighter note it seems to me that the American Empire, as powerful as it might seem, is a hollow creation that will not stand long in any case. It is bankrupt, both financially and morally, and has pretty much zero support outside it's own borders. I only hope and pray that its eventual fall in the not too distant future is not one that is accompanied by fire and blood.
Pray for peace, pray for our leaders to have wisdom and mercy and know that the will of God will be done in the end.
