Peace and War
I just finished reading
The Early Christian Attitude to War by C. John Cadoux I printed it out and read it carefully. I had expected to be confirmed in my position that the earliest Christians were all pacifist. While there is much evidence to indicate that for the most part they were, I was surprised to see that even from very early times there were differences of opinion on the subject.
For a time while I was reading I thought that I would simply reject Catholicism out of hand on this single issue. But that seemed an odd attitude to take since all of the other churches I've been involved in, except the Mennonite Church in Spring Valley, have held the very same view towards warfare! So now here I am in limbo again, not really knowing quite what to do other than to pray. So that is what I'm doing.
I still think that even if the early church was not united on the issue it was the very clear teaching of Jesus Christ, you really have to be a lawyer to get support for any war, "Just" or not, out of the words of our Lord.
The question is, if this is the case, where
does that leave me with the Catholic Church?
