Daily readings: Friday in the 6th week of PentecostNumbers 20:1-13 Romans 5:12-21 Matthew 20:29-34In Numbers 20 is the story of Moses and Aaron striking the rock to get water at Meribah. God had commanded them to tell the rock to yield water, but they decided to strike the rock. They also spoke words that sound like they are taking credit for the miracle and not giving the glory to God. For this reason they were denied entry to the Holy Land! If that were the consequence of stealing the glory of God for providing water, how much more dire could the consequences be for stealing the glory of God in our salvation? We are nothing, we do nothing, God does it all!
Romans continues in all of its blazing clarity! How can
anyone read Romans and not understand we are saved by grace through faith and not through any actions of our own?
Finally our Lord touches the eyes of the blind and they see. They cried out "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!" In crying out for mercy were they acknowledging their sin and asking for forgiveness?
