Memorization Project
One of the New Years resolutions I made a few weeks ago was to memorize a passage of scripture each week. So far so good! I have found it to be far easier than I had expected it to be. In fact I wonder why I didn't do something along these lines a long time ago. I suppose it was Satan telling me that I can't do it, that it's too hard and too time consuming. All lies. It only takes me about an hour to get a passage down pat, then a few minutes each day during the week to practice them. I imagine when the list gets longer the practice part will take longer though. The best part is that these passages, and others I haven't formally memorized yet, come to my mind during the day when I need them. The trick seems to be staying open to the Spirit and allowing Him to teach me. I did notice, when I was writing down the passages that follow here, that the punctuation doesn't always come through exactly the way it ought to, oh well, no one is perfect...
So far I've memorized:
1 Cor 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear, but when you are tempted He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
1 Cor 6:18-20 Flee from sexual immorality, all other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually, sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own, you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body.
Is 43:18-19 Forget the former things, do not dwell on the past. See I am doing a new thing, now it springs up, do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.
1 Cor 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone, the new has come.
So, that is my work on memorization for the month of January. It was actually quite fun to work on this memorization stuff. I'm going to continue it on through February and the rest of the year with the Lord's help.
Lent is coming early this year, due to Easter being in March. I think I will do the same Lenten fast I did last year, or I think I did last year, I will completely cut myself off form all political thought and discussion for that time. In fact I may start it before Ash Wednesday, like maybe today? Nyah... no sense rushing into these things ;-)
