These [signs of Jesus] are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name. John 20:31
Jesus healed a nobleman’s son and raised Lazarus from the dead. These are some of the signs John wrote about that Jesus did in the presence of His disciples. John wrote about these signs for two reasons. First, so that we might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. Second, so that we may have life in His name by believing in Him. Christmas shares the goals of St. John. Both call us to believe that Jesus is the Son of God and God’s promised Savior. Both want us to have life by believing in Him. The life that God gives us by faith in Jesus was obtained by Jesus Himself. The Son of God born as a baby grew up to be lifted up on the cross, to destroy the death caused by our sin and, by His rising to life, to give us life. This life, as John records, is very special. It is life with God that begins now and lasts forever. It is the life of God imparted to us, which turns our lives from loving sin to loving God and others. How great to believe!
Dear Lord Jesus, help us always to believe that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Thank You for giving us life. Amen.
