As for those Chinese Humans who might want to be free, well the heck with them, we are trying to make a buck here and cannot possibly be bothered with HUMAN FREEDOM, not when there are really urgent matters like imprisoned chickens to worry about! May 11 Cyril and Methodius, Missionaries to the Slavs
Cyril (826-869) and Methodius (ca. 815-885) were brothers who came from a Greek family in Thessalonica. The younger brother took the name "Cyril" when he became a monk in 868. After ordination, Cyril became librarian at the church of Holy Wisdom (Hagia Sophia) in Constantinople. In 862 the brothers were sent by the emperor as missionaries to what is now the Czech republic, where they taught in the native Slavic tongue. Cyril invented the alphabet today know today as "Cyrillic," which provided a written language for the liturgy and Scriptures for the Slavic peoples. Hydrant Returned After Bedroom Stint
The hydrant in the bedroom was the elephant in the living room. A 400-pound, green and yellow fire hydrant apparently spent more than 30 years in the upstairs bedroom of a Yakima couple's home before it was returned recently to the West Valley Fire District, after the man's death.

That is strange, I once had a fire hydrant too! I am sure mine did not weigh 400 pounds, though it was very heavy. A friend liberated it from the local fire department's supply yard, during a chemically influenced 3 am road trip around town, somehow he managed to get it over the 8 foot fence. We carried it to my car and took it home where it remained in the living room for a number of years. At Christmas that first year after I got it I removed the dome shaped top and used the base to hold up my Christmas tree. We gave it a number of psychedelic paint jobs, usually while tripping on acid. Eventually I got married and my wife, during a move from one house to another, convinced me the thing was too much trouble to take with us. So we left it sitting in the parking lot of the apartment building when we left. Like the one in the news story mine began its journey in Washington State, I was in California when I gave it up... Ah, those were the good old days :-)

CNN.com - USA Today: NSA building massive database of phone records - May 11, 2006
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Congressional Democrats demanded answers from the Bush administration Thursday about a report that the government secretly collected records of ordinary Americans' phone calls to build a database of every call made within the country.
Of course you know what the authoritarian neo-fascist crowd will say about this, "If you don't have anything to hide you don't have anything to worry about." As if one could trust the government not to abuse such information! I mean really, they didn't lie to get us into an interminable conflict in Iraq did they?
This remains one of my biggest difficulties with Lutheran doctrine, I am not sure the attitude toward government we advocate is the correct one. I still struggle with the appropriate Christian response to a clearly evil government.
