![]() | You scored as Luther. You are Martin Luther. You'll stick with the words of Scripture, and defend this with earthy expressions. You believe in an orthodox Christology. You believe that the bread and wine are the Body and Blood of Christ, but aren't too sure about where he goes after the meal, and so you don't accept reservation of the Blessed Sacrament or Eucharistic devotions.

Worldly rulers of all times and places find ways to impress their subjects. Some wear fine jewels and sit upon thrones. Others fly in personal jets and are accompanied by special agents. Whether they are kings, princes, presidents, or prime ministers, the “head of state” also has some sort of military might. When a nation so successfully wields its military power that its people have little to fear from foreign invasion, citizens are tempted to fall into complacency, trusting only in their “princes” and forgetting about the Lord. Time and time again, throughout the Old Testament, when Israel had gained military power, the people often forget about the Lord.
In whom is your security? In whom do you place your trust? Do not place your hope in your rulers or leaders. Even the greatest presidents and prime ministers of the world’s greatest nations are subject to the words of this Psalm: “When his breath departs he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish.” Human leaders are not only sinners, but they are mortal. Their security is that which human flesh provides. And human flesh fails. Human flesh dies. Human flesh betrays. Even what man makes with His hands is subject to decay, and will one day cease to be.
Not so with the Lord. The Lord has made heaven and earth. He created the sea and all the creatures that swim in the sea and dwell upon the earth. It is the Lord who creates faith and sustains it in His promise of life everlasting. Is your help in the Lord? If so, the Psalmist says of you, “Blessed is he!”
The world attempted to subject our Lord to the same death and decay that destroys worldly princes, kings, and leaders. They even gave our Lord a crown of thorns, adorned Him in a King’s purple robes, and gave him a wooden throne of sorts—the cross. While the plans of earthly rulers end when they die, with the Lord death was His plan. He died to overcome death. And with Him, you have died to the sinful flesh and have your share in His resurrected, glorified flesh. This world has done its best to keep our Lord down. Our Lord, who is a King of Kings, couldn’t be conquered. As surely as you are united to Him, buried in baptism, and raised into the fullness of new life, the world can do you no more harm that it can do your Lord, Jesus Christ. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
