Catholicism and Fundamentalism
As I continue to pray and read and study the Word of God, I find that gradually my doubts about the course I'm embarked upon are dissipating. Yesterday I went to the
Pauline Book store in San Francisco where I picked up an apologetic work by
Karl Keating (of Catholic Answers.com)called
Catholicism and Fundamentalism. Subtitled
The Attack on "Romanism" by "Bible Christians." I'm about 1/2 way through the book now and have found it very informative. One thing that impresses me about the Catholic faith is the
logic with which it is presented. Much of what is accepted in many fundamentalist congregations on "faith" is really irrational, at least this has been my own experience in studying with fundamentalists. Circular reasoning, or a complete lack of logical reasoning at all seems to be the norm. Reasonable explanation or argument is replaced by simple statements of "faith" simply as "a given" where really some foundation is actually available if only one were willing to do a minimal amount of investigation.
Catholic Answers.com is a very useful site by the way.
